Attestation and Legalisation of Documents

The Consular Section attests civil and commercial documents, including certification of the Seal and Signatures of the designated authority of the Ministry of Foreign Affaires, Government of Tunisia.

The documents should be submitted in original along with a photocopy. The originals, duly attested, will be returned and the photocopies retained for record.

The documents should be accompanied with a request on plain paper giving name and full address of the applicant seeking the attestation.

In case of Affidavits and Power of Attorney, the person(s) executing the same should sign before the Consular Officer. The signatories should produce their passport in original and a copy thereof.

Documents are accepted on all Working Days (Mondays to Fridays), from 9.00 a.m. to 12.00 p.m. Normally, documents are returned between 3.00 p.m. and 4.00 p.m. on the same day.

NOTE: Documents originating from Tunisia will only be accepted after signatures have been duly notarised and then attested by the Ministry Foreign Affairs of the Government of Tunisia.

Specific procedures, fees, etc. are applicable to other attestation services for documents, such as property and succession matters, birth/death etc. details of which can be ascertained from the Consular Section.

The above stipulations are only illustrative and individual cases will have to be dealt with on merits. In case of any further clarification, the Consular Section may be approached.

Attestation of affidavits/documents pertaining to sale, purchase, power of attorney, mortgage, transfer, gift etc. of real estate of movable properties or issue of a document by a Consular Officer pertaining to such matters



Where a Consular Officer draws up or assists in drawing up any document mentioned at item 1(A) above



Attestation of civil documents (affidavits, educational degrees, sponsorship certificates, marriage certificates, wills, Power of Attorney (etc.)



Where a Consular officer draws up or assists in the drawing up of any document mentioned in item 2(A).



Attestation of Trade/Commercial documents or issue of any certificate (country of origin etc.) pertaining to exports from foreign country to India.



Attestation of Trade/Commercial documents or issue of any certificate pertaining to exports from India to foreign country.



A Consular Officer solemnizing a marriage, registration of a marriage certificate and a certified copy of the entry (all).



Attestation of documents pertaining to sale, purchase, mortgage, transfer of vessel or transfer of one’s interest in merchant vessel



Attestation of other documents pertaining to ship/vessel or issue of a certificate or verification or acceptance of a document of taking any action as per Chapter IX of the Consular Manual on ‘Merchant Shipping’. The Shipping Company (or Captain of vessel on behalf of Company) being applicant/payee of consular fee



Attestation of documents of issue of certificates to a sailor as per Chapter IX of the Consular Manual on “Merchant Shipping” (individual sailor being applicant for his individual use)



For administration of distribution, or both of the property situated in country, of the Consular Officer’s residence, of an Indian citizen or any other person, not being a seaman, dying intestate, or if not intestate, when undertaken in the absence of legally competent representative of the deceased in country of his death or on request of legal heirs of deceased living in India as the case may be.



Services requiring visits or attendance of a Consular Officer on request of an applicant away from Chancery



Attestation of pension papers, life certificate etc. pertaining to pensioners



For affixing Consular Officers signature and seal, if required, for declarations of pay or pension.



Other miscellaneous attestations, issue of civil certificates, notarial services as per Consular Manual, registrations of birth or death not falling within any of above categories



Where Consular Officer draws up or assists in drawing up of any documents pertaining to services mentioned at item 9(A) above



Registration of death & a certified copy of the entry.



Cancellation of Indian Passport of an Indian national who dies abroad


TD 06.000 towards ICWF will also be charged from the applicants for each service except item No. 9C for which TD 09.000 will be charged
