Visit by HE E. Ahamed, Minister of State for External Affairs of India to Tunisia, 5-7 November, 2012

HE Mr. E. Ahamed, Minister of State for External Affairs of India paid an official visit to Tunisia at the invitation of the Government of the Republic of Tunisia from 5 to 7 November, 2012.

During his visit, he called upon the President HE M. Marzouki, Prime Minister HE Mr. Hamadi Jebali, President of National Constituent Assembly HE Mustapha Ben Jaafar, Foreign Minister HE Rafik Abdessalem, Secretary of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, HE Hedi Ben Abbes and President of the Ennahda Party Mr. Rached Ghannouchi. Minister of State Mr. E. Ahamed conveyed the greetings of the Indian leadership and the good wishes and felicitations of the people of India to the government and the people of Tunisia on the successful non-violent revolution for dignity and freedom led by the Tunisian people followed by an orderly transition process. He conveyed India’s readiness to provide all assistance that the people of Tunisia may require in the transition period and thereafter.

Minister of State Mr. E. Ahamed held wide ranging discussions with his Tunisian interlocutors on bilateral, regional and international affairs. Bilateral cooperation projects in several sectors including Information Technology, pharmaceuticals and fertilizers were discussed. The Tunisian leadership briefed the visiting Minister on the transition process currently underway in Tunisia. Minister Mr. Ahamed extended, on behalf of the External Affairs Minister of India, an invitation to HE Mr. Rafik Abdessalem to visit India, which was accepted.

Minister Ahamed’s visit strengthened the bilateral ties between India and Tunisia and also laid down a framework for enhanced bilateral cooperation for the future.
